Meet the Vestry: Deborah Elliott

The Vestry plays an important role in the life and leadership of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. We’re excited to introduce you to the people who serve on our Vestry and help guide our church community. In this post, we’re pleased to introduce Vestry member Deborah Elliott.

Hi, my name is Deborah Elliott. I have been a member of St. Paul's since the mid-1970s. My husband Paul and I were married here and both our children, Eric and Emily were baptized, confirmed and grew up attending Sunday School in this church.

Through the years I have taken on many responsibilities and worn many hats. I have been a member of the Vestry 3 times, I think this is my 4th term. I served as Senior Warden under Peder Berdahl. I was a member of the Southeast Deanery and a member of the Diocesan Standing Committee. During my time on the Standing Committee, we celebrated the retirement of Bishop Jones and called Bishop Cate to serve our Diocese. It was a great time to be involved!

While my children were young, I was Education Coordinator for several years, responsible for determining curriculum, recruiting teachers and organizing the annual Christmas Pageant. I was also co-chairwoman for the joint Vacation Bible School we hosted for several summers with First United Methodist Church and North Christian Church.

I have also served on the Altar Guild for too many years to count as well as been involved with Valentine Dinners, Silent Auctions, Waycross weekends, creating banners, Greening the Church, etc, etc, etc.

Paul and I enjoy spending time at our lake place on the Tennessee/Kentucky state line, rolling down the road in our Motorhome searching for new adventures and chasing after the antics and activities of our 4 grandchildren; Noah, Emerson, Hallie Grace and Chloe. On any given day you can find us on a ball field, gymnasium, pool or playground somewhere.

I am excited about all the possibilities the future holds for our parish. Together we can do anything!
